I’d never heard of EKO, but I’m really impressed.
The look of the bin is really sleek and stylish, it’s not one of those ugly bins that sits in the corner of your kitchen. It’s a really good size too, but this doesn’t compromise the capacity.
The sensor feature is a nice touch, and there’s a couple of settings meaning you can have it auto-close after a few seconds, or keep it open until you say you’re ready. It takes batteries which means you don’t have to worry about having a plug socket nearby too.
The caddy is really easy to take out and put back in, and holds the bin liners well – no creases and rips meaning your litter goes all over the kitchen floor!
It’s not the cheapest product out there, but I think it’s well worth the money.

I’ve been after a new bin for a while now, but never got round to choosing one or wanting to spend so much money on something you essentially put your rubbish in. However, now I have this one I genuinely think its great value. It looks very stylish and sleek in my kitchen and it really is ‘fingerprint proof’.
My favourite part is of course the sensor, the wave over it and the bin lids open, and stay open for about 5 seconds. They will then automatically close themselves so you don’t have to touch anything. There are some blue lights which count down the five seconds, in case you wanted to check how long its going to stay open for.
The bin itself is separate to the outer stainless steel bin, meaning you can take out the inner bin completely, very convenient if you needed to wash it. Also it means you can tuck the bin bag around this, and then place inside the outer bin, so you don’t ever get the black/white bin bag hanging out on display.
Overall, it seems fantastic quality and cant see that it would need to be replaced for a very very long time. The bin sensor runs on 6 AA batteries, which I don’t anticipate having to change often.

First impressions of this bin were very positive. It looks nice and smart and was really simple to set up and start using. The bin liner ‘fixer’ is really useful meaning no more bags slumped in the bottom of your bin when over filled. The auto opening lid is great especially if you don’t like the idea of having to touch the bin lid to open it, keeping your hands and/or the bin lid nice and clean.
The novelty wears off after a little while though. The sensor is quite sensitive and opens the bin whenever you go near it. Personally I think it could do with an option to disable the sensor and be able to open it manually (if you turn the sensor off, you can’t open the bin at all). I’m still trying to find a suitable place to put the bin so that it doesn’t open when you walk past it! One downside to the bin is that my dog has figured out how to open it. Safe to say we’re now using it for recycling only! Another negative is the number of batteries it requires (six AA). Not sure how often they will need replacing, but it may be sooner than expected if the dog keeps opening it!
