I was so pleased to have the opportunity to trial one of these bins. I had been thinking of moving on to a model with a sensor as friends have got these but was not sure if it was worth the additional cost.
The set up was simple once I realised the battery compartment was on the reverse of the bin. When putting the batteries in take out the battery compartment as getting all 6 AA batteries in is a bit tricky when I was trying to do it while the battery case was embedded in the lid.
After this I was good to go and I quickly saw the benefit of a sensor bin when you have both hands full when using the bin. I have been really pleased with it and as I said in the title it has made me much more excited then I thought I would ever get over a new bin.

We got this bin to replace our cheap plastic recycling bin which we’ve had for years that looks out of place next to our existing simple human bin
The quality is just as good as our simple human bin, colours exactly the same – silver and black so they look good together.
It’s simple to set up, it takes 6 x AA batteries which aren’t included. It has two modes, the sensor and manual. The sensor sees you from a certain distance and opens straight away, it then senses when you’re no longer near and shuts with a soft close. The manual option is a touch of two buttons to either open or close. One criticism would be that you can’t physically open the top without prising it open from the middle so I suppose it’s always got to have working batteries but I suppose that’s the point of the sensor bin!
The bin is very sturdy and has an inner bin which is ideal for our recycling bin as we can clean the inner bin out with our empties residue as needed without cleaning the entire bin each time. You can also buy liners I understand for the inner section but don’t think we’ll bother
Overall great bin, sturdy, stylish (as much as a bin can be), and convenient.

The bin looks very stylish and is a good size for a small to medium kitchen (i have small kitchen and it’s not too imposing).
The sensor works really well, you need to hold or move something relatively near it, the doors open quickly and then blue lights come on to indicate when it’s about to close, which is a really useful feature. If you are holding something over it, the doors stay open. There’s also the option of tapping on the control panel to open and close the doors manually.
It needs 6 AA batteries to operate, and they don’t come included so make sure you have some handy. I guess the need for batteries is the only downside to the bin, but I’m not sure how you could overcome that.
I’ve been sceptical of sensor bins, always preferring the feedback you get from a pedal bin, but thought i’d give one a try and have been pleasantly surprised. As bins go, it’s a pretty classy addition the kitchen!
