Well, after living with it for a week and a half, it’s done two adults who are away from home regularly, very well.
It’s built solidly, has been finished well and although maybe a tacky in some areas (the handles on the outside are made of a tough plastic) it’s a bin, and doesn’t affect overall usability.
The brushed steel is very nice and is relatively thick – the product is rather heavy, because of this. A good thing, in my opinion.
The instructions were a bit non existent but I was told this was due to being the trial and certain things not being quite finished. I imagine this would be sorted.
There is some kind of plastic flap in the top of the lid that I assumed is for a deodoriser of sorts – not something I’m personally too bothered about. Compared to the rest of the bin, this feels a little tacky but frankly, the rubberised lips do a very fine job of keeping smells in the bin and not in the kitchen.
The inner bin (it’s two parts, inner and outer) is a good shape and takes (most) bulky rubbish well. It’s made of sturdy plastic and feels like it could take a good beating, pretty much like the rest of the item.
The soft close lids and mechanism are all very solid and do not feel like they are going to break anytime soon. The only disadvantage to the soft close is the outer bin is a fair bit bigger than the inner bin.
The feet are placed in each corner and one in the middle by the pedal and open very sturdily and the bin doesn’t move or wobble.
Unfortunately, and the only reason I didn’t give it five stars was also because of the feet. It didn’t stay put on a VERY smooth surface. I used it on some rather old tiles and it marginally slipped along the floor (backwards, with nothing behind it only. Not left or right and no toppling) I’d imagine most people wouldn’t find this a problem unless its not put against a hard surface – in which the lid(s) open fine (don’t hit the wall)
All in all, decent for one or two people and feels like it’s built to last.

This bin has a decent soft close feature for the hinged lid and the pedal function is very controlled. It sits firmly on the ground and doesn’t seem to be easily tip-able. I like that there is an inner bucket that can be removed for cleaning. This is held in place by the main lid which is manually opened and is also soft close. The bin is easy to lift and move about with indented handles. I like the sleek clean look of the satin finish, although, this is not completely finger print proof it’s more resistant than most finishes. All in all a nice product.

I haven’t previously been a big fan of pedal bins. I previously found that they were typically made of thin metal making them quite flimsy and prone to dent damage. I’ve also previously had experiences where the bin pedal would break from use or easy push down with little feedback such that the bin lid would come flying open.
Having pointed out these previously experiences I have to say that the EKO X Cube didn’t look to suffer from these issues. The bin is robustly made and didn’t seem to mark easily even with touching. The pedal has a good feedback feel when pressed down on to open the lid. I also like the ability to lock the lid in the open position. I love that the lid comes back down in a controlled and silent fashion. I like that there is an odour control feature but whether this does the job will tell with time.
The design is sleek and shouldn’t look out of place in most modern kitchens or bath rooms. Overall pleased with the bin.
